Courmayeur and Chamonix united to create music without borders From the unification of the Courmayeur and Chamonix Mont Blanc marching bands, the Orchestre d’Harmonie du Mont Blanc was born to entertain tourists and residents alike in a magical atmosphere year after year.
Banda Musicale di Courmayeur, the marching band of Courmayeur, has been playing since the 19th century and was the band of Courmayeur Alpine Guides Society for many years, the first in Italy and the second worldwide.
It is a bit of a mystery how music can reach the depths of our being. Thanks to the music is like we hear these places and see them for the first time.
(Giuseppe Cederna)
Come listen to the Orchestre d’Harmonie du Mont Blanc, the band of the White Mountain
At the beginning of 2003, the Courmayeur and Chamonix marching bands came together to form the Orchestre d’Harmonie du Mont Blanc, made of 40 musicians.
Every year, the orchestra provides the background music for festivals and fairs, lightening up the mood and leading tourists and residents of all ages to discover music.
This cross-border musical band, the only one of its type in Europe, reflects the spirit of cultural collaboration between the two towns at the foot of Mont Blanc, Courmayeur and Chamonix, and proves that music knows no borders and speaks a common language all over the world.
The musical direction of Banda Musicale di Courmayeur was given to Conductor Emilio Haudemand. Afterwards many conductors followed, including Corrado Vallet, Eugenio Alberti and Faurethier, until 1975, when the marching band was assigned to Maestro Giancarlo Telloli, who is still holding the position of band conductor today
