Discover a different side to Courmayeur, visit the charming Sanctuary of Notre Dame de la Guérison
This place is the Sanctuary of Notre Dame de la Guérison, built in 1792 around a statue considered to have miraculous powers. The visit to the sanctuary is one of the most evocative hikes immersed in the spectacular views of the Aosta Valley. On the walls there are many offerings, symbolizing the quest for help and protection from the mountaineers and every 2nd of July there is a dedicated mess to Courmayeur Alpine guides.
In addition, the chapels of Regina Pacis on Mont Chétif, and the little village chapels of San Benedetto in Dolonne, San Germano in Larzey, Madonna dei Sette Dolori all’Ermitage and San Leonardo in La Saxe are also worth a visit.
On the summit of Mont Chétif you will find the chapel of the Regina Pacis, built by the people who lived in Courmayeur in 1946, in gratitude to the Virgin Mary for looking out for the town during World War II. On September 7th 1986, Pope John Paul II, who had a great affection for Mont Blanc, blessed the entire continent of Europe during the Angelus from that summit.
