Hiking from the Bonatti Refuge to Col Malatrà

The Walter Bonatti refuge is situated on the Alta Via no.1 and Tour du Mont Blanc and is the starting point for many walks. One of the most breathtaking is the walk to Col Malatrà, gateway to the Valle d’Aosta.

The route starts at the Bonatti Refuge at 2,025 m, which can be easily reached from Val Ferret on the Alta Via no.1 just after the village of Lavachey.

From the Bonatti Refuge head up the Malatrà valley on the left side of the stream to the Malatrà pastures, then continue to the upper reaches of the Malatrà valley.

At this point, cross over to the right side of the stream passing a bridge that leads to the Giué Superiore pastures.

Continue along the mid-flank of the mountain until you reach Col de Malatrà, where you have a spectacular view of the Mont Blanc chain and the Gran Combin valley.
