The Giro dei Giganti

Since 2010, the Alta Via 1 and Alta Via 2 high level paths have been linked up to form a spectacular 370 km circular route enfolding the entire Valle d’Aosta, and passing the 4 highest peaks in Europe and 2 spectacular nature reserves.

The entire Giro dei Giganti - Tour of the Giants - can be walked starting and finishing in Courmayeur Mont Blanc: the AV1 “High Level Path of the Giants”, and the AV2 “High Level Nature Path”, are now linked to form a route that completely encircles the Valle d’Aosta.

The Giro dei Giganti is a unique long-distance path, 370 km and 27,200 m of vertical ascent at an average altitude of 2000 m.

The route runs through 2 national parks (the Gran Paradiso National Park and the Mont Avic Regional Park) and a Nature Reserve (Mont Mars), but above all it brushes up against the tallest giants in Europe: Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn, Monte Rosa and Gran Paradiso. Courmayeur Mont Blanc is the start and finish of the Giro dei Giganti.

What makes this long-distance path so special is the ever-changing scenery, from meadows, woods, Alpine hills where you’re likely to come across chamois and ibex roaming free to examples of natural and human architecture shaped by human hand and by the millennia-long history of the Valle d’Aosta.
