It was 8 August 1786 when Balmat and Paccard first set foot on the summit of the Great Mountain, and since then thousands of enthusiasts and mountaineers have dreamed of reaching this peak, a symbol of world mountaineering.
The peak of Mont Blanc has the appearance of a smooth cap of ice and snow. It dominates the Alps and Europe and being on the top gives the impression of being on the summit of summits. Every year around 20,000 people try to reach the top.
