Courmayeur is not just about skiing and aprés-ski, if you are lucky might be holidaying here during the famous “Lo pan ner” festival, an important event around the theme of brown bread. Every October, 50 towns of Aosta Valley heat up their ovens to win the award for "Best Brown Bread" and for "Best Sweet Traditional Bread".
Bread is the kindest and most welcoming of words. Always write it with a capital letter, like your first name.

Competition for the title of best brown bread
Courmayeur Mont Blanc takes part in the festival with the bakeries of Dolonne and La Saxe that safeguard and pass on this ancient tradition. From dawn, bakers take out the brown bread from their oven to share the authentic aroma and taste of Aosta Valley with guests and visitors.
Even though “Lo pan ner” is an ancient festival, the younger generations help pass on the tradition and moments of conviviality, friendliness and leisure for everyone.
On that day, the programs of the Dolonne and La Saxe bakeries start at 9 with the kneading of the dough and the possibility to visit and watch the bread making preparation in the bakery.
