Courmayeur, the sporting champions

“La Stampa per Voi”, the newspaper’s tour now in its fourth edition as it travels through Piedmont, Liguria and the Aosta Valley, is stopping off in Courmayeur. At this event, entitled ‘Courmayeur, the sporting champions’ – taking its cue from a famous quote by Pietro Mennea: ‘Sport teaches us that talent alone is not enough for victory; it takes hard work and daily sacrifice. In life as in sport.” The event will feature leading figures from the world of sport in conversation with the newspaper’s journalists.

Taking to the stage will be:
– Marco Camandona, a mountaineer among the very few to have climbed all 14 eight-thousanders;
– Federico Pellegrino, a legend of Italian cross-country skiing who has just retired after winning two more medals at the Milan-Cortina Games;
– Simone Origone and Valentina Greggio, the most successful speed skiers of all time;
– Tathiana Garbin, captain of the women’s national tennis team.

But man does not live by sport alone, so there will also be a focus on current affairs with:
– Domenico Quirico, columnist for La Stampa;
– Domenico Giamello, head of the Turin-Aosta region at Banco BPM;
– Roberto Rota, mayor of Courmayeur.

The event will be hosted by the editor-in-chief of La Stampa, Antonio Di Rosa; deputy editor Federico Monga; the head of the Aosta news desk, Andrea Chatrian; and columnists Paolo Brusorio, Giulia Zonca and Enrico Martinet; there will be a laugh with cartoons by Stefano Rolli.

The Valle d’Aosta Man and Woman of the Year will be honoured, having been selected and voted for from a shortlist of eight local figures nominated by the editorial team for their commitment to social causes, culture or sport.

The event is free and open to all.
